Sometimes a song reminds us of our true home, somewhere else. In one of the truly remarkable song performances in the American Idol competition was Adam Lambert’s “Mad World”. Listen to the words as he reminds us that in many ways, this is truly an insane world:
"All around me are familiar faces,
Worn out places, worn out faces,
Bright and early for the daily races,
Going nowhere, going nowhere.
Their tears are filling up their glasses,
No expression, no expression.
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrows,
No tomorrow, no tomorrow.
And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad:
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had.
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it's a very very
Mad world, mad world."
The line, “the dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had” is a reminder of just how much we miss our heavenly home. Many times here on Earth that should be happy often are not.
"Children waiting for the day they feel good:
Happy birthday, happy birthday,
Made to feel the way that every child should.
Sit and listen, sit and listen.
Went to school and I was very nervous:
No one knew me, no one knew me.
Hello teacher, tell me what’s my lesson,
Look right through me, look right through me."
When one looks into another’s eyes we often do not find what we are looking for… unless we shift our perception. The Christ is there, waiting for us to change our minds and make another choice. Sometimes that choice is not made until we get the feeling that we really aren’t getting anywhere right here where we are:
"Just when you think the road is going nowhere,
Just when you’ve almost gave up on your dreams,
Then take it by the hand and show you that you can.
There are no boundaries.
There are no boundaries.
I fought to the limit to stand on the edge.
What if today is as good as it gets?
Don't know where the future's heading,
But nothing's gonna bring me down.
I've jumped every bridge and I've heard every lie.
I've risked being safe but I always knew why.
I always knew why.
So here I am - still holding on!
With every step you climb another mountain.
Every breath it's harder to believe
You’ll make it through the pain,
Weather the hurricanes,
To get to that one thing."
Idol winner Kris Allen voices the advice we get from the Holy Spirit to keep hanging on, you will make it to get to that One thing that really counts… Heaven. That is the reason we hang on, forgive, and make new choices.
Most of the rules in this world are there to keep us from realizing that we can “be one with all things”, one with the infinite. We do not have to accept smallness. We do not have to stay trapped. At some level we create our reality; we can also make different choices and change our reality to make it more of what we really want.
"You can go higher,
You can go deeper.
There are no boundaries
Above and beneath you.
Break every rule cause there’s nothing between you and your dreams.
With every step you climb another mountain,
Every breath it's harder to believe.
Yeah!
There are no boundaries,
There are no boundaries."
Of course LOVE is what we really want. To love others, to be loved by them. It is truly our only permanent reality. When we ignore it, we miss it terribly! It is only a choice away.
I often download the songs where I recognize the Voice For God speaking the Truth to me. Sometimes it is just a few of the words, sometimes the whole song. I enjoy making a mix of these songs to listen to so that when I am sad like Adam Lambert recounts in “Mad World”, I can remember like Kris Allen, that there really are “No Boundaries” except the ones put there in the mistaken belief that they would protect from harm. Thank you, Idols, for being the Voice For God! Thank you iTunes for giving us access to these wonderfully new songs!
Kara DioGuardi, Cathy Dennis, and Mitch Allan wrote “No Boundaries” and Roland Orzabel, main singer and songwriter of Tears for Fears wrote “Mad World.”
